Ethics Friday
On June 6, 2025, the Governmental Audit Office of EU Funds held a leadership meeting symbolically titled “Ethics Friday”, as part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting ethical values and responsible conduct in daily work.
During the meeting, participants discussed concrete ethical dilemmas, examples from audit practice and ways to enhance ethical awareness and responsible decision-making. Special attention was given to the draft of the new Code of Ethics, developed in line with the ISSAI 130 standard, as well as to the introduction of an internal Procedure for Managing Conflict of Interest.
The Code clearly defines the values, principles, and standards of behavior expected from staff, and its implementation will be supported through a set of activities, including:
- regular training sessions on the content and application of the Code of Ethics;
- education on topics related to professional ethics;
- establishing mechanisms for reporting unethical behavior, including anonymous channels and whistleblower protection measures;
- integrating ethical considerations into the recruitment process;
- regular monitoring of the ethical climate through anonymous surveys;
- organizing internal meetings for open discussion and exchange on ethical dilemmas.
The key role of the Integrity Coordinator was highlighted, along with the promotion of an “open-door policy” as an important support mechanism for staff in addressing ethical concerns. An initiative to establish an Ethics Corner was also presented – a dedicated space for learning, dialogue and continuous improvement in the field of ethics and integrity.
Through this initiative, the Audit Authority demonstrates and reaffirms its commitment to upholding ethical standards. With a systematic approach, continuous education and open dialogue, the Audit Authority remains dedicated to fostering a culture of integrity grounded in professionalism, accountability and public trust.
